Dear Friends,
As we near the holidays and the end of the year, we'd like to share another update with you from the amazing kids in Peru.
Over the summer, our volunteer, Leah, started two successful businesses: an entrepreneurial bakery with teenage girls and a women’s knitting co-operative. The bakery was so successful, our partner organization, Expand Peru, took the project under their wing and will continue to support the girls as they develop their business acumen. Leah has been in contact with several retail platforms to promote products created through the knitting co-operative for sale in the U.S. Check out the scarf and hat below – what incredible talent!
Continuing the great work is our new volunteer, Chesalyn Melgar. In addition to several smaller projects, Chesalyn will be mentoring the girls who started the bakery to support their development and commitment to success. For her first month in Peru, Chesalyn was a big part of a construction project in support of a family in need. She, along with several other volunteers, built a large adobe addition - complete with electricity - to the family's home. You can follow real-time updates on these projects through our blog: http://mejorc.wordpress.com/.
As always, we encourage your active involvement in making a difference in the youths' lives. We invite you to apply for a scholarship to volunteer with the CASA kids: http://www.mejorc.org/current.html.
Thanks again for your continued support!
Nadia
