Free music education for Roma and Non-Roma children and youth at Roma Rock School

By Alvin Salimovski | Founder & Executive Director

Dear friend of Roma Rock School,

Thanks to your donation and support we managed to continue with our work and project activities. The fact that there are people like you out there makes our job, even more, vital and gives us new energy to succeed.

The value of music is something that Roma Rock School (RRS) takes very seriously. Studies have shown that music classes aid students academically and help teach them the skills necessary for success later in life. The biggest Roma settlement in Europe, Shuto Orizari in N.Macedonia has many musically talented children and youth, with lack of access to musical instruments and music education due to living in poverty and social exclusion.

Deep poverty of parents is one of the many causes of the limited attendance of schools by Roma children. The access to musical schools and education is even more difficult considering the high cost for artistic education and purchasing musical instruments.Watch the story of one of our students here: Gjolhan's Story

With your help we continued to work with 20 Roma children and youth from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds through a unique curriculum combining Heavy Metal/Hardcore/Rock mixed with Roma traditional music and through provision of the necessary music instruments, equipment, and free music lessons.

How your funds are used:

- Providing free lessons in guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, vocals, wind instruments (clarinet and saxophone), violin, music theory and solfege and band section. In addition to band sections and instrument lessons, we help students learn to read notes and prepare them to enroll in music high school and college.

- each student has free lessons twice a week for his instrument

- investing in instruments inventory and equipment for rehersals

- audio recording of songs in studio

- video recording

- providing free transportation for students from Shuto Orizari to the city centar and back

- organizing workshops

- organizing concerts

- investing in the school conditions

- upgrade recording equipment and software at the Roma Rock School

- organizing promotional events to promote the bands...

On behalf of our beneficiaries and RRS staff, we would like to thank you for your generous donation!

We would love to hear your feedback, comments & Suggestion on our program.

Best weishes,

Team RRS.
