When Vivian attempted to leave her husband who had been abusive and sexually assaultedher for a number of years, he nearly strangled her to death and sexually assaulted her once again. When the assault was over Vivian managed to call the police, who brought Vivian to safety and informed her about the services of the Center for Safety & Change.
Not knowing that services like the one's offered by the Center even existed, Vivian gladly decided to seek help from the Center, whose advocates accompanied Vivian to all initial hearings and every single court appointment. With the help of the Center's advocate Vivian was able to then withstand the trail that ultimaltey found her husband guilty, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
While the trail brought up a lot of emotions for Vivian, she attended individual and group counseling sessions at the Center, which helped her tremendoulsy in the process of healing from the trauma she experienced. During the sessions Vivian learned that she was not alone and that there was a way for her to be safe.
The services that helped Vivian through some of the darkest hours in her life and gave her hope that she would one day be able to enjoy life again are made possible because of donors like you.
On behalf of the women, men and children we serve, we send you our heartfelt thanks!
