Project Report | Oct 19, 2026
Forum for Religious Leaders

By Dr. Yehdua Stolov | Executive Director

June 29th, 2026

This time we focused on the spiritual world of Rabbi Danni.

His father came from a merchant family in Germany, a religious but non very Torah-focused family, and his mother from a secular family in Austria. He grew up in the Rehavia neighborhood in Jerusalem and after high school he moved to a higher yeshiva. Yeshiva studies are not a framework with a specific goal in mind. The intention is to learn Torah for its own sake, which will guide life and be expressed in everything a person does. After a year at the Shaalavim Yeshiva, he moved to the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva, where he liked the lack of distractions and the way in which everyone directs themselves. The main study in the yeshiva is about ten tractates from the Babylonian Talmud - those that teach a person how to study.

Admission to a yeshiva considers academic ability, but also the assessment of self-discipline, which is required for self-study – usually with a partner – for a whole day, and also the spiritual integration of the candidate into the special nature of the yeshiva. The goal is to raise a person who is a personality of Torah, and therefore a great scholar who does not possess good qualities is not considered.

At the Merkaz HaRav yeshiva, he immediately felt at home and connected with the powerful figures who were there: Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook, Rabbi Avraham Shapira, Rabbi Shaul Israeli, Rabbi Mordechai Sternberg. After a few years in the yeshiva, there are options to adjust to different tracks for the rest of the journey: a halakhic track of rabbinical and jurisprudential studies, a scholarly track intended for those interested in teaching in a yeshiva, and a faith track for studying in yeshivahs like Merkaz HaRav. Rabbi Dani was drawn to the scholarly track and specialized in it. After nine years of study, he began teaching at Yeshiva Beit El and later served as Rosh Yeshiva Beit Orot for over two decades.
