Supporting Women and Girls Affected by Conflict Through Lifesaving GBV Services

Thanks to the generous support of GlobalGiving donors, the Women's Affairs Center (WAC) continued providing lifesaving support to conflict-affected and displaced women and girls in Gaza City, Deir Al-Balah, and Khan Younis, including women and girls with disabilities. Your generosity enabled women and girls experiencing violence, repeated displacement, and profound loss to access safe, confidential, and compassionate services that protected their wellbeing and restored hope during an ongoing humanitarian crisis.

During this reporting period, your support enabled 50 conflict-affected women and girls to receive individual psychosocial support in a safe, confidential, and compassionate environment. These sessions helped participants process traumatic experiences, manage stress, express their emotions, and develop healthy coping strategies to navigate the challenges of daily life. For many, the sessions provided one of the few places where they felt safe to speak openly, were listened to without judgment, and received the emotional support needed to begin rebuilding their confidence, resilience, and sense of hope amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

To help meet urgent personal care and protection needs, WAC also distributed 110 dignity kits to women and girls facing heightened vulnerability, including survivors of gender-based violence, women experiencing repeated displacement, women with disabilities, women living with chronic illnesses—including cancer survivors—pregnant and lactating women, older women, and female heads of households who were widowed, divorced, separated, or bereaved. Priority was given to those living in inadequate shelter or with limited access to clean water, in line with Protection Cluster standards. Each kit contained essential hygiene and personal care items, including sanitary pads, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, underwear, a prayer outfit, slippers, tissues, wet wipes, and a carrying bag. While these items met immediate practical needs, they also helped women preserve their dignity, privacy, and sense of self during a time when even the most basic necessities were difficult to obtain.

One displaced mother arrived at WAC's safe space feeling overwhelmed by loss, repeated displacement, and the daily struggle to care for her family. Through the psychosocial support sessions, she found a safe place to share her experiences, connect with other women facing similar challenges, and gradually rebuild her confidence and hope. Reflecting on her experience, she said: "For a long time, I felt that I was carrying all this pain alone. When I joined the sessions, I felt heard and understood. I realized that I still have strength inside me, and I can continue for my children." The support she received helped her regain emotional strength and develop practical strategies for coping with ongoing stress. Receiving a dignity kit also eased some of the daily burdens by providing essential personal care items and reinforcing that her wellbeing and dignity matter, even in the midst of crisis.
