By Ensena por Colombia | Empower students Bilingual education in Colombia
At Enseña por Colombia, we firmly believe that every child and young person in the country deserves the opportunity to develop the knowledge, mindsets, and skills needed to become positive leaders within their families, communities, and regions. At the same time, Colombia needs more leaders who are committed to ensuring that all students learn and that education becomes a true pathway to opportunity and social transformation.
Today, more than ever, it is essential to focus on leadership as a driver of change and a catalyst for building a better future. As a country and as a society, we have witnessed the transformative power of leadership grounded in empathy, generosity, and the common good, as well as the consequences of leadership models driven solely by individual interests. For this reason, we work to develop leaders who can create sustainable change from classrooms and communities.
Our vision is to build a collective leadership movement that works toward making education a transformative pathway through which every child and young person in Colombia can reach their full potential. For more than a decade, we have impacted the lives of over 150,000 students across 20 departments of the country, expanding educational opportunities and promoting stronger learning outcomes.
Today, in 2026, our network includes 113 teachers working in 97 schools across Colombia, directly reaching more than 20,000 students. Each of them contributes to closing educational gaps and strengthening the foundational learning that young people need to thrive in the future.
Within this context, we would like to share the work we are carrying out alongside GlobalGiving to mobilize international resources and donations that enable us to expand our impact. The contributions we receive are primarily invested in strengthening bilingual education in classrooms—an urgent need across Colombia.
Why English? Because opportunities to learn this language remain deeply unequal. According to data from ICFES (2024), seven out of every ten Colombian students graduate from high school with an English proficiency level of A1 or below. This gap is even more pronounced in public schools and rural communities, limiting the academic, professional, and personal development opportunities available to thousands of young people.
Our commitment is to ensure that more students learn English and gain access to better opportunities for their future. Through Ecos de Enseña por Colombia, in 2025 we supported 6,331 students in strengthening their English-language skills. The results demonstrate significant progress: 65% of participating students improved their English proficiency, while at the primary school level, 79% showed measurable gains, with an average increase of more than 15 points between Teach For Colombia’s baseline and endline assessments.
These achievements are possible thanks to the support of partners and donors who believe in the transformative power of education. Every international donation translates into more students learning English, more teachers strengthening their instructional capacities, and more opportunities for young people who would otherwise have limited access to high-quality bilingual education. With the support of the international community, we can continue investing in learning, expand our reach, and ensure that thousands of students across Colombia develop the skills they need to build the future they aspire to create.
We have also attached an English executive summary of our 2025 Annual Impact Report for your review. This document highlights our organization’s key results and impact indicators and demonstrates how the contributions of partners and donors translate into improved learning opportunities for thousands of students in Colombia.
Thank you for your interest in our work. We look forward to continuing to build a future with greater opportunities for every child and young person in Colombia.
