Empower students: Bilingual education in Colombia

Thanks to the generous support of GlobalGiving donors, Enseña por Colombia has made significant progress in empowering bilingual leaders who are bringing transformative education to some of the country’s most vulnerable regions. In 2025, our organization deployed 28 Ecos teachers across the national territory. These extraordinary leaders are working in early childhood, primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education, reaching a total of 22,758 students.

At Enseña por Colombia, we are working to transform this landscape through our bilingual Profes Ecos: exceptional leaders who bring their knowledge and passion into classrooms in vulnerable communities. Our Ecos not only teach a second language, but also open doors for children and youth to access a future with greater academic and professional opportunities. In doing so, we aim to reduce the inequalities that currently hinder English learning, caused by factors such as socioeconomic gaps and unequal access to technology. Through their commitment, creativity, and close relationships with students, our bilingual Ecos demonstrate that English can stop being a privilege for a few and become a tool for equity and social transformation within Colombia’s public education system.

Currently, our Ecos are teaching in diverse regions, including Barranquilla, Cali, Malambo, Carepa, Chigorodó, Santuario, Bogotá, Barrancabermeja, Medellín, Necoclí, Dibulla, Tumaco, and Cartagena, among others. Thanks to their work, students in these communities are accessing high-quality bilingual education, gaining the tools to connect with the global community, strengthen critical thinking skills, and improve their future employability.

International donations through GlobalGiving are essential, as they have allowed us to train and support 28 bilingual professionals in 2025. They continue to receive specialized training and English courses to strengthen their pedagogical and linguistic skills, ensuring sustainable growth in their students’ academic performance.

In 2026, we are placing approximately 47 bilingual Ecos across Colombia, and we expect that within the next month all of them will be fully placed, allowing us to continue impacting even more students. We will keep you updated on their progress and achievements.
