Empower students: Bilingual education in Colombia

Our movement is based on our belief that we need exceptional leadership on different levels of the system to tackle the educational challenges in Colombia . Being part of this project means that you are helping us bring exceptional bilingual professionals to classrooms across Colombian regions. We provide training and guidance to these professionals over a two-year period through our Lidera program.

Over the last 4 months, we have been working on one of our more important stages of the program to fulfill our mission: running our initial training institute where more than 160 professionals were trained in pedagogy, social justice and leadership before they reach the classrooms. 

Thanks to your donation and the GlobalGiving support, for the actual year we can guarantee 1 month of classes for 30 students with an exceptional english teacher. It is worth mentioning that, during the training institute, 26 bilingual professionals were trained and supported and 18 of them are now ready to be English teachers for the next 2 years and they will continue to receive training in English tools to enhance their skills in the subject. This achievement is a collective effort, made possible through your donation and the collaboration of more than 50 partners and 43 recurring donors.

Our approach is distinguished by a unique, locally rooted yet globally informed model that has proven successful in 61 countries. By 2024, having 26 bilingual teachers means that we are going to impact about 4.550 students. Is important to highlight that in 2023, we conducted English tests with 9 fellows and more than 250 students from primary and secondary school. For those fellows who conducted entry and exit evaluations, we found an average increase of 7% in the percentage of correct answers between the results of the first and second measurement. The best results in the tests were identified in grammatical aspects. We created customized reports for each fellow, in order to share results by topic and components of the assessment, which help them take actions within their classrooms to improve student learning.

Our commitment to sustaining and building upon these achievements in 2024 remains steadfast. The fellows who participated in the 2023 training institute are ready to contribute to transforming education. They understand that being part of the Enseña por Colombia movement goes beyond social justice, leadership, and love.
