Streetwork - A New Beginning

By Aron Flasher | Manager, Corporate Partnerships

As we begin 2017, we enter the new year full of promise and hope, yet fully aware of the changing times in which we find ourselves. Public funding priorities can change swiftly and our Streetwork Project is particularly vulnerable to these changes.

Over the past few years, Streetwork has lost several sources of government funding, particularly in support of our HIV/AIDS programming. This is particularly disconcerting as our clients suffer from HIV/AIDS at a higher rate than the general population (Three percent compared to less than one percent among the general population - Young, S.D. and E. Rice, Online social networking technologies, HIV knowledge, and sexual risk and testing behaviors among homeless youth. AIDS Behav, 2011. 15(2): p. 253-60.)

This is why your support is so critical as you allow us to maintain and improve our health-related offerings that included: HIV/AIDS testing, access to mental health counselling, support groups, as well as connections to other health services. This in addition to our other comprehensive and holistic support services which include the provision of: beds, showers, food pantry items, personal care items, connections to housing and public assistance programs, and other support services.

If you are able, please continue to support Streetwork and the clients we serve by making a donation today and help us start out 2017 on the right foot!

PS. Check out our recent video with Boost Mobile, who helped provide support for our young people over the holidays. https://www.safehorizon.org/safe-horizon-in-the-news/boost-mobile-helps-homeless-youth-streetwork-project/
