Nigeria has an estimated 1.9 million people living with HIV, while stigma, misinformation, poverty, access barriers, and challenges with daily PrEP can prevent people from testing, starting, or staying in care. Young women and key populations remain important priorities. New long-acting prevention options create an urgent opportunity, but communities need awareness, testing, referral, follow-up, and affordable access to services.
HopeShield will provide community HIV education, HIV testing referrals, prevention counselling, PrEP awareness, stigma reduction, treatment-adherence support, and psychosocial/community support for people living with HIV. We will work with qualified health providers and follow Nigerian and WHO guidance, including appropriate referral for twice-yearly injectable lenacapavir PrEP for eligible HIV-negative people at substantial risk, with HIV testing and clinical follow-up.
We aim to strengthen HIV prevention and care at the community level, increase HIV testing and early linkage to treatment, improve treatment adherence, and reduce stigma. We will expand awareness of PrEP and newer long-acting options such as lenacapavir, while building trusted referral pathways with health facilities. As funding grows, HopeShield will scale outreach, education, referrals, support services, and prevention access to more underserved Nigerians.
