The looting of ANATRAF’s offices in March 2024 led to a halt in the activities of the Association of Small-Scale Fruit Processors. To support its relaunch and the opening of a new office, Ayiti Demen and FOKAL in Haiti launched a solidarity appeal. Nearly $1,000 was raised through the GlobalGiving platform.
In addition, Ayiti Demen granted $5,000 to FOKAL to fund the second phase of ANATRAF’s relaunch. Following the submission of the activity report and monitoring of Phase 1, the funds were disbursed by FOKAL in April 2025.
Phase 1 of the project, supported by FOKAL and the Swiss Cooperation in Haiti, enabled ANATRAF to:
acquire a diesel engine to power its new offices;
purchase furniture and office supplies (desks, chairs, tables, filing cabinets, etc.) to support the reopening of the premises, the organization of meetings, and the facilitation of trainings;
obtain technical control equipment: a set of tools (refractometer, thermometer, pH meter, scale, etc.) ordered from two companies in France. Although the equipment has been paid for, delivery to Haiti remains suspended due to the halt in commercial flights;
purchase IT equipment: three laptops, two printers, one camera, one projector, and various accessories (external hard drives, USB keys, monitors, etc.). Most of this equipment is already in use, allowing a partial restart of activities;
purchase training materials for fruit processing workshops;
install a renewable energy system: solar panels, batteries, inverter, generator, and necessary accessories.
Ayiti Demen and FOKAL are currently awaiting updates on the launch of Phase 2 of the project. However, delays are anticipated due to the ongoing instability in the country, particularly difficulties in travel caused by armed groups controlling national roads—especially those leading out of Port-au-Prince.
