The free RAM Air Ambulance in Guyana continues to be a lifeline for hundreds of villagers in remote regions of the South American country. So far, in 2018, RAM has provided emergency care to 99 children and 557 adults (656 people total). This free care is valued at more than $524,000!
In other news, the month of August brought about a great loss for Remote Area Medical - RAM® with the passing our legendary Founder & President, Stan Brock. Mr. Brock, who founded RAM in 1985, passed away in Knoxville, Tennessee on Wednesday, August 29. He was an extraordinary man who lived an exciting and fulfilling life -- having been a cowboy, movie star, wild animal wrangler, and philanthropist. Mr. Brock put every waking minute of his time and all of his resources into RAM and was able to see the organization through its 958th expedition. During his 33-year tenure, RAM served more than 740,000 people, providing more than $120 million worth of free care.
While we grieve Mr. Brock's passing, we will continue to champion his legacy in providing free care to those in need, including those who benefit from the air ambulance program in Guyana. Fortunately, Mr. Brock built a very strong organization, capable of living on long after his passing. RAM is blessed to have a dedicated 12-member Board of Directors, 34 skilled staff members, and tens of thousands of humanitarian volunteers and donors. RAM will always remember Stan Brock and will continue to uphold his vision of preventing pain and alleviating suffering for thousands of people around the world.
