Your donation has enabled us to implement therapeutic, developmental and recreactional programs. Each child has their own personal file with recordings of their milestones, their achievements and their challenges. Each child receives individual counselling and group counselling and this has been so helpful with some of the bad behaviour that we are experiencing.
Intervention takes place and we also use the referal systems where we need to. We have a volunteer doctor who sees the children every Friday and she highlights or alerts us to any emergency sistuation around the health of the children. Our current staff who handles the children are 20 in total . We have 4 staff being trained to receive the qualifications for child andd youth care worker. The cost attached are R10 500 per person for one year. This necessary training will equip the staff to deal better with our children. Our dream is to give the other 16 staff members the same opportunity offered to the first 4 staff. Two of our Fikelela Children Centre staff has been trained as Gender Based Violence Champions.
Outings & Schools : Currently we have 11 children grade 1 to 3 all of them passed their grades. We have had birthday parties, celebrating their good pass. they have been to the aquarium and the Noddy party.
Their daily programs are facilitated by qualified teachers and volunteers. The following are their main activites: listening skills, improving memory skills, road safety, reading skills, art skills. The story telling has assisted the children with improving their communication and correct use of English language. Our children need the support of an occupational therapist as well as a child psycologist.
We are trying our best to do some additional fundraising to assist our older girls with their traumatic experiences. The children are very happy despite their baggage that they carry and it is wonderful to see their reaction when new babies and children arrive. Thank you for believing in us.
