Global Giving Report Fikelela Child and Youth Care Centre - Support of abandoned children
Life at the centre has been a buzz with children leaving the home and being re-unified with family or foster families. It is such a bitter - sweet story one is deeply affected when children arrive at the Centre badly neglected, malnourished, infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, abused or children at risk.
There is lots of crying, children overwhelmed by being removed from their homes and families and being placed in a place of safety. It is hard work, lots of love and care that is administered by each and every individual at the facility to turn that crying , fear and anxiety to comfort and joy.
We are in awe as the resident children embrace new children and make them feel at home by reaching out with a sweet, a piece of fruit, a hand of friendship because they are reminded of the day that they arrived at the centre for the first time.
Our roles don't stop at when children arrive or when they leave we also have to deal with the separation as children leave the home and I am still left behind. Is there something wrong with me?
Your gift enables us to offer our children one on one counselling sessions to deal with these deep rooted emotions and issues. It is with great pride that we share that we have 4 Male Carers at the facility to assist us with raising our boys especially around issues like discipline and how to assist in the home.
From all of the children at Fikelela we appreciate you very much and we are very grateful for your donation. We are happy children, we are fed well, we are educated daily with good resources like the Jerry Giraffe Sunday School Program as well as the Survivor Africa Sexuality Program and the Agents of Change Life Skills Program.
As we grow older we begin to understand things differently and we do ask lots of questions.
Thank you for your support and for making a difference to our lives.
