On Wednesday 26 August, catastrophic flooding occurred in Nepal across the provinces of Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi, as well as communities along the Trishuli River corridor. Devastating flooding has left communities grieving, displaced and facing a long road to recovery. Hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands remain missing as rescue efforts continue. The disaster has caused widespread damage to homes, businesses, roads and critical infrastructure.
Floodwaters from the Rapti River-one of the country's largest rivers has affected a large number of villagers in approx. 13 districts. The worst hit districts are Bardiya, Banke and Achham districts that are about 600-800 kilometres west of the capital, Kathmandu. Flooding has caused much destruction including killing thousands of animals, and destroying more than 10,000 tons of food stock. The floods have left the Nepalese people of these areas adrift with no housing, shortage of clean
working alongside their local partners NRNA have travelled to ground zero in Saptari so that humanitarian relief could be delivered to some 4,500 families supplying temporary shelter, food and medicine. They are also setting up temporary medical camps to assist those people who are sick or have been injured.
