We are thankful for your support of this project. I am writing to share some updates from ActionAid's emergency response to a food and migrant crisis in Ethiopia.
In addition to experiencing a historic drougth that has affected millions of Ethiopian's livelihoods and safety, the conflict in Sudan has driven thousands of people to Ethiopia in search of safety. The migrants include diplomats, foreigners, Sudanese, and Ethiopidans.
On top of about 4.2 million internally displeased people and over 1.5 million returnees (whom were displaced from ongoing conflict in northern Ethiopia), Ethiopia now hosts an additional 823,000 refugees and asylum seekers predominantly from South Sudan, Somalia and Eritrea.
On a daily basis over one thousand daily arrivals are registered in Metema, an Ethiopian border town, and ActionAid is working on establishing a new refugee camp there, to safely shelter and provide assistance to refugees. hese people are in need of emergency assistance. This emergency assistance includes: access to water and sanitation facilities, food, and healthcare and providing items like sleeping mats, solar lamps, hygiene kits, dignity kits, kitchen sets, free calls for all arrivals to contact families, and transportation of individuals to and from the border to the transit center, and onward transportation to Gondar city and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
With your support, our response aims to provide emergency assistance for 5400 refugees and returnees for the next six months, and beyond.
Thank you for supporting our emergency response and for entrusting us to provide support for all families, women, and girls affected by the drought and conflict in and near Ethiopida.
