Thank you so much for your support of this project. I’m writing to share some updates from ActionAid’s emergency responses. We appreciate you taking the time to learn about and support our work.
Recent reports have determined that “one person is likely dying of hunger every 48 seconds in drought-ravaged Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia”, where nearly half a million people across parts of Somalia and Ethiopia are facing famine-like conditions. In an already unstable situation, climate change, internal conflicts, and the war on Ukraine’s impact on food supply have converged to worsen this crisis facing Ethiopia and the greater Horn of Africa. As it currently stands, appeals to respond to the drought and situation in Ethiopia remain underfunded. Please consider sharing this project with your network, so we can continue to support communities on the frontlines of the climate and food crisis in Ethiopia.
ActionAid is on the ground providing life-saving relief and support to thousands in affected communities, and we are continuing to work tirelessly to support these communities and increase resilience to future crises. ActionAid emphasizes the importance of women’s leadership in emergencies because we know that women have a strong understanding of their local contexts, inclusive of the needs and realities of the women and girls in their communities. Our work has also taught us that women and girls face an increased risk of gender-based violence, trafficking, and exploitation during these kinds of emergencies, which is why we’ve provided training for local women to lead the response and created safe spaces for survivors of gender-based violence.
Now more than ever, your commitment to human rights makes a difference. Thank you for your support and solidarity.
