Thank you so much for your support of this project. I’m writing to share some updates from ActionAid’s emergency response in Ethiopia. We appreciate you taking the time to learn about and act in response to this crisis.
Updates as of December 2021
Conflict in the Tigray, Afar, and Amhara regions of Ethiopia continues to intensify and the situation is becoming more complex. A state of emergency has been declared at the federal level and regionally, travel restrictions have been imposed. As a result, the need for humanitarian assistance is deepening.
Thanks to your support, ActionAid has implemented an emergency response plan. To date, we have delivered food to more than 12,000 people (including 8,000 women) and non-food items, such as hygiene kits, to 8,000 people (6,700 women). We have also provided protection and multipurpose cash support to 5,200 people (4,200 women).
Women have been front and center in ActionAid’s efforts – playing leading roles in the targeting, verification, and selection of people to reach. In Afar, our response was led by women and youth-led organizations, who have a grassroots presence in the community; in the Amhara region, by a long-term local civil society partner. As always, ActionAid’s work is locally led, with women’s rights prioritized.
This response is only possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you. Thank you for being part of the ActionAid team!
