QUARTERLY REPORT JUNE-SEPTEMBER

By Samson Namwoyo | Project Leader

SUMMARY

In Uganda, disabled children are denied rights and access to education, and are so underprivileged in communities. This three years project is designed to improve the livelihoods of children with disability in Bugweri District eastern Uganda through provision of education support to 300 disabled children, empowerment of households with disabled children with sustainable income generation project and advocating for their rights to education.

Situation

Care takers of Disabled children particular in Bugweri district are relatively poor and lack awareness on the rights of disabled children. This makes parents abandon their disabled children in homes as they assume it's a burden. As a result, these disabled persons are denied right to education by their parents and are denied the necessary education requirements and other basic needs. The project seeks to provide the necessary education and basic requirements for 300 disabled children. Children with physical disability and learning disabilities are always neglected by their parents because they are seen as burdens to the family and communities. Yet these children are also important in the community and disability is not inability but lack of opportunity to show capability

From June to august, the project supported 24 children with learning disabilities and physically hand camped with Scholastic materials including Books, pens and pencils. The project procured 60 books, 48 pencils and pencils.
