VISIONAR SCHOLARSHIPS – APRIL 2017 UPDATE -
FOUR new VISIONAR scholarship recipients (joining SIX continuing students)
Your contributions in the form of donations are allowing us to continue supporting high-potential students. Please meet our four new VISIONAR students:
Gaston is a straight-A student that has just started college at Universidad Tecnologica Nacional in Rafaela, province of Cordoba, and enrolled in the Civil Engineering program. He graduated high school with honors (best grade point average of 9.50/10, elected best classmate, and awarded the distinction of “abanderado”, by which he represented the school during official ceremonies), and was also recognized by San Francisco’s Lions Club for his academic achievement.
Maria Ines is another freshman student in the Industrial Engineering program at the same university. Maria Ines is an outstanding student who was also an A-student through high school. In addition to enjoying math (a basic requirement for anyone passionate about engineering), Ines is a talented writer. Already at her young age, she received a Rotary Club award for her literary endeavors and has published three of her poems in an Editorial Novel Arte poetry collection.
Emilia is on her second year of Psychology at the Universidad de Ciencias Sociales y Empresariales, in San Francisco. Anyone meeting Emilia for the first time will notice her personable and outgoing personality; she quickly lets you know how passionate she is about social sciences and understanding people. When she is not busy with school or volunteering in a daycare center for low-income families, Emilia’s hobbies include poetry and photography.
Luana is another student at the top of her class, currently starting her third year of chemical engineering at the Universidad Tecnologica Nacional in San Francisco, one of the most challenging academic programs at the university. The recommendations from her teachers were outstanding, especially because her stellar academic performance (GPA 9.0/10) is the product of perseverance and strength. Luana does not have the support of her parents, who would prefer that she quit school and contribute to the family business (they tend a small convenience store). Luana has a vision for herself and does not intend to drop out of school. We applaud her for that.
Joining our four new scholars are continuing students Micaela (chemical engineering), Sofia (chemical engineering), Antonela (veterinary), Maria Paula (psychology), Jesica (electrical engineering), and Florencia (psychopedagogy).
Out in the world
Where are our VISIONAR alumni now? Just as it is exciting to see our VISIONAR students flourish, it is heart warming to know that those already “out in the world” continue to grow professionally and personally. Today we are featuring one of our alumni, and you will hear from the others in the coming months.
Angela (left, seen here with sister and also VISIONAR graduate Micaela) is a successful accountant loving what she does and quickly rising in her profession. In 2016 she went through a highly competitive application process at AFIP (Federal Tax Collection Agency, the “IRS” of Argentina) and, among hundreds of applicants, she was offered a position as an AFIP accountant. She received training in the Buenos Aires home office and now located to the town of Marcos Juarez (230 km from San Francisco, her hometown) where she is adjusting to her new life and new job. Angela, we wish you the best!
Please consider supporting one VISIONAR student through their school year, which represents USD $1,525 in today’s exchange rate. This amount helps pay for university fees, school supplies, books and transportation. As always, any amount is deeply appreciated and welcome.
