Meet Law Student Agustina (open pdf for full report)

By Gabriela Mondino | VISIONAR Scholarships

Dear VISIONAR friends,

As the Northern hemisphere prepares for Spring, our students in Argentina spring into a new school year.

For Agustina, an outstanding VISIONAR student at UCES University supported by your donations, this is a very busy and special year: Agustina is due to receive her Law degree in May, has a full time job at Morteros Courthouse (a position she earned through a very competitive recruiting process) and is about to begin a specialization program in civil and commercial law.

See Agustina as she introduces herself in the following videos:

Agustina lives with her parents and sister in San Francisco, Argentina. Her father is an auto mechanic, and her mother a schoolteacher. Her sister Carolina is studying Physical Education. Agustina has a daily 2-hour commute by bus to her job at the Courthouse in the town of Morteros, a job she loves, helping with court hearing reports and other legal documentation.

Last February, Agustina presented her final thesis for her degree. She researched the impact of the Sistema Interamericano de Derecho Humanos (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights) in her community. Her project included a survey of 225 lawyers in the San Francisco area and interviews with prominent judges. Agustina can’t wait for the oral presentation of her project in May! Assuming she will pass (and being an A student, this is a safe assumption), Agustina will then receive her Law degree.

What is next for Agustina? She is planning to complement her studies with a degree as notary public, which, in Argentina, strengthens her curriculum to be considered for promotion within the Judiciary system. In April, she will also take a highly competitive exam to be considered for a job within the Federal Judiciary system. Agustina is a very busy young lady!

In her vision for the future, Agustina would love to do a graduate program in International Relations, but she is not quite sure how as this would entail moving to Buenos Aires, and finding a way to finance that degree. (Nota bene: VISIONAR supports college students only).

A final word of THANKS to all of you who continue to support us: Your donations make it possible for Agustina and another twelve college students to follow their passions, to get an education, and to build a future for themselves. Gracias! Thank you!

Please help us to continue supporting students like Agustina. To donate:
