Since the Afghan Taliban took control in August 2021, the situation in Afghanistan remains tense and the future of the country uncertain. Forty years of war and insecurity, chronic poverty, and this year a very severe drought and the COVID-19 pandemic had already had a devastating impact on the people of Afghanistan. Now, the conditions have worsened. We are raising funds to deliver vital emergency relief to families whose lives have been affected by the unfolding humanitarian disaster.

The recent economic collapse, brought about by the withdrawal of development assistance and the imposition of financial sanctions following the Taliban takeover has further complicated an extremely challenging operational context. Over the past year, the pandemic, another extreme drought, the escalation in conflict, and this unfolding economic crisis means that Afghanistan is now facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with some 22.8 million people facing acute food insecurity.

We are raising funds to support those stuck in challenging situations across the country, many of whom now have no home or belongings. We are continuing to provide food parcels, cash assistance and emergency shelter so that families can keep a roof over their heads; the support they need to heat their homes and keep warm; hygiene kits including soap and laundry detergent; kitchen kits so that they can cook and safely store food and items such as solar powered lamps, stoves and gas cylinders.

Long-Term Impact

Helping families access food, find safe shelter, and stay clean and healthy is crucial first step in helping them rebuild their lives after losing their homes and livelihoods, and therefore be able to contribute to the wider development of their communities. Alongside our emergency relief work, our long-term development projects and community-led approach means your donation will invest in change that lasts.
