We’re so excited to formally introduce the youth group we’re working with here in the Philippines – Buklod Ng Kabataan. Buklod Ng Kabataan - which means “youth bonding together” in Filipino – has a beautifully simple mission: “To Promote and Protect Mother Nature”.
Buklod Ng Kabataan has more than 125 members between the ages of 7 and 18. They all live in the extremely flood prone community of Banaba, and they have all experienced the devastating effects of flooding.
Buklod Ng Kabataan understands that if the environment is degraded, the floods get worse, so they’re taking action. This summer, Buklod Ng Kabataan will run a series of workshops aiming to involve more youths in environmental activism and partner with Greenpeace to force local governments to curb river pollution.
These initiatives will both strengthen youth activism here in Banaba and create a healthier, safer environment for all the residents of Banaba who live near the river. We can't wait to get started!
You made huge changes possible for disaster-affected youth in Haiti possible, and we know that we can do even more here! We look forward to updating you on progress and successes in the coming weeks and months.
Thanks so much for all you’ve already given, and we look forward to updating you!
