One in three children lives under risk of poverty in Spain. What is their only opportunity to build a better future? Education. This is a social-educational project that takes place outside school hours. We give educational and nutritional support to children between 3 and 12 years old, who have scarce material resources and/or emotional support and are risking school failure.
Spain is supposed to be a middle-income country. Yet, one Spaniard in four is now officially out of work as the economic crisis tightens its grip on the country. And the impacts of the actual economic crisis will remain for years. Actually, one in three children lives under risk of poverty. The families we serve live with less than than $ 3,900 average per capita income. 45% of Spanish children drop out school before graduating and 31% suffer from school failure.
We provide educational support, nutritional and health care to children aged 3 to 12 of different origin, who share the risk of social rejection. We have developed a pedagogical model that maximizes personal, relational and school success, through education in values, minimicing school failure and developing emocional intelligence and talent. That way we contribute to minimize isolation and neglecting of children; we facilitate social inclusion; and we prevent school failure and drop-out.
We want to give these children more opportunities to build a better future for themselves and for their community. We will provide educational and nutritional support to 75 children every year, allowing them to rise out of poverty and maximizing their opportunities to graduate, which will provide for their families' well-being.
