The ongoing crisis due to Covid-19/Coronavirus pandemic has badly affected the community of women and girls in the red light zones of Delhi, Calcutta and Mumbai. The community are losing their daily wages and finding it difficult to put food on the table for their families. The women have reached out to us talking about their despair in these difficult times. The government of India has imposed a 21 day lockdown with a possibility of extension . The community is worried that this would result in them losing their daily wage further and rely on their meager savings to go through the day.
The Apne Aap field members also, have been facing problems in working in the field due to the government lockdown and difficulty of transportation to the community. They have braved all odds and are carrying out the distribution if a basic care and survival kit to the distressed communities across the country
The aim is to help the women and girls in the community and their families who are facing extremely difficult living conditions and provide them with some support and provide with basic food and health and hygiene facilities so that they can survive through this crisis.
