PEP recently conducted a training for a Self Help Group at Rano Bheel village. During the training we found that the Self Help Group at Rano Bheel is not only focused on savings, but they are very friendly towards each other and are very engaged and connected with each other.
During the training, we met a lady Shazadi who is a member of the SHG group at Rano Bheel village. She shared with us her testimony about how the SHG group has helped her save money and to use it for her daughter's illness.
Shehzadi has been with the SHG group since the group began, and before that her children were studying in PEP school when they were saving as part of Aflatoun members. Shezadi was impressed when she saw her own children saving and sharing with her the importance of saving as well.
Shehzadi shared, "As my children grew up and went away to their homes after marrying, I was left alone and started to have some financial problems. My friends and neighbors reached out to me and told me about SHG I immediately took the opportunity to join, and have since been very fortunate as a result of being a member of the group."
Recently in 2019, Shehzadi had to go through a terrible tragedy when her daughter passed away due to cancer, but during her daughters treatment the SHG group fully supported Shehzadi financially for 6 to 8 months through the SHG group.
Even when her daughter passed away, Shehzadi is always very thankful to the SHG group and is now supporting others in her group through savings. For Shehzadi, the SHG group is like family to her in her time of need. The group meets each month to collect their savings and rotate the saved amount to any person who immediately needs it. The SHG group has proved to be really effective for members of Rano Bheel village.
The Women's Empowerment Programme conducts trainings for women in rural areas and these trainings are really effective way to empower and encourage women to develop socially, spiritually, and emotionally.
