My name is Laali and me along with my husband, Amershi and children; live in Mir Aata Mohd. Talpur village in district Mirpurkhas, Sindh.
Before being a part of Primary Education Project’s Women Empowerment Program,
She recalls,
“I and my husband used to toil in a landlords piece of land the entire day moreover; we did not knew anything about saving. Life was hard and money was difficult to earn but we tried our best to feed our family”
However, later on I became known of Primary Education Project’s Women Empowerment Program functioning in our village and became a member of it by contacting our village mobilizer, Seeta. I have also attended trainings conducted by Primary Education Project and have learned about topics that I was not aware of like Disaster Risk Reduction, Community Led Total Sanitation and saving money which have proven to be helpful for me in all aspects.
Laali confidently shares,
“These trainings have made me become vigilant with respect to social issues and confident even in the face of rejection and due to this I have transformed myself in a positive manner and am opening towards vast possibilities. I also took part in the monthly BC system held by my group and got total PKR 9000 through it due to which I laid foundation of a small business, paid my children’s fees, gave household rent and bought some jewellery made up of silver now worth PKR 18,000”
Primary Education Project has helped to re-establish myself and I am immensely filled with gratitude that they have given me an opportunity to become a part of it and discover my capacities, whereas, my way of thinking has also developed at a broader platform and I am able to share my opinions in front of my fellow members.
Many women now in our village are familiar with Community Led Total Sanitation, Disaster Risk Reduction and saving and I have noticed a remarkable change in my village that a great number of women are keeping their homes hygienically clean and are saving money as well as resources regularly. Therefore, my only intention is to give my children a sustainable future and help Primary Education Project to broaden in my village so further women like me could be benefitted from it.
