During the first half of 2026, ONG É Por Amor continued operating its community kitchen in Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, providing meals to people and families facing food insecurity and social vulnerability.
From Monday to Friday, our team prepares and distributes approximately 100 meals per day. Many of the people we support return regularly throughout the week, including older adults, families with children, and other residents for whom access to adequate food remains a daily challenge.
Each meal is prepared with care and typically includes rice, beans, vegetables, salad, and protein. Partnerships with hotels and other donors help us obtain part of the food we use, particularly proteins, while ONG É Por Amor continues to cover or seek support for the other essential costs required to keep the kitchen operating.
During the first six months of 2026, we prepared and distributed approximately 13,000 meals to the community.
While food donations and partnerships have been essential to keeping our kitchen active, one of our greatest challenges remains financial sustainability. We are still looking for companies, foundations, and individual supporters willing to become long-term financial partners of the project.
Financial support is especially important because donated food alone does not cover all the costs of operating a community kitchen. We still need resources for rice, beans, vegetables, cooking oil, seasonings, cooking gas, meal containers, transportation, and other everyday expenses.
Our project was launched on GlobalGiving in May 2026 with the hope of connecting this local work in Manguinhos with people and organizations around the world who believe that access to food should always come with dignity.
Although we have not yet received financial donations through this GlobalGiving project, the kitchen has continued operating thanks to the commitment of our volunteers, food donors, partners, and the ongoing efforts of ONG É Por Amor.
For us, this continuity is itself an important achievement.
Every weekday, the kitchen opens again. Food is prepared. Meals are packed. And around 100 people receive a warm meal.
Our goal for the coming months is not only to maintain this work but also to find financial partners who can help make it more sustainable. Recurring financial support would give us greater stability, allowing us to plan food purchases, cover operating costs, and protect the continuity of the meals offered to the community.
We remain hopeful that GlobalGiving will help us build these new connections.
