As we continued to advocate for support in order to empower children in Sub-Saharan Africa with storybooks that they can relate to, in the languages that they are most familiar with, we are planning to distribute them digitally and in print format.
We will support educators and families to encourage children to read for pleasure as a way of achieving the joy of reading. This is one sure way of boosting foundational literacy among children, particularly, those for whom resources for early reading are limited or non-existent.
We are currently working with teachers from six primary schools in Kenya to support them to grow professionally through a Professional Learning Community (PLC). The focus of this PLC is using storybooks to support children to read for pleasure as a foundation for improving literacy.
We are also working with 33 individual literacy Champions in Cameroon, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe who are looking forward to receiving more resources in the form or digital devices and or printed storybooks.
