The Imirasire Youth Clinic & Laboratory (aka IYCL), which is a project under Centre Marembo's Health Program (more info about CM's Programs: Programs — Centre Marembo), has experienced operational delays due to the rainy season earlier this year.
We had occassional intense rainfalls, starting back in somewhere December 2023 until February 2024, which affected various districts of Rwanda's provinces. With intense rainfalls comes floodings, landslides and soil erosions.
Damages varies in different areas, but as for the Gasogi Sector (Gasabo District within Kigali City province where the IYCL is located), floods are to be expected. Our clinic compound did suffer some flooding, but there are no major damage to the clinic infrastructure, nor was there any water damage inside. To further prevent future floodings, especially with the April rainy season, Centre Marembo contacted the Engineer of the Gasogi road project to resolve the issue ASAP by to complete the waterway canal.
It took awhile but thankfully the waterway canal was completed and further flooding was prevented. Once the flooding issue was resolved, a few additional changes were made to the IYCL: a new small building space with 3 separate rooms (sanitation room, stock room and incineration room to dispose of medical wastes) and an added outdoor W.C. space.
As of right now the medical staff of IYCL is currently making arrangements to the clinic such as stocking up the pharmacy, installing new medical equipments, and having each of the clinical rooms and reception ready to accept patients.
We hope to start the clinic activities soon as possible.
