Challenge

In the slums of Kampala, where MPI works, poverty, illness, and war-related trauma place enormous pressure on vulnerable families. Many caregivers struggle to meet children's basic needs, leading to neglect, abandonment, or loss of parental care. MPI's Welcoming House provides a home for 65 children and youth, many living with HIV. However, meeting their daily needs for health, nutrition, education, and wellbeing requires resources that are often beyond the organization's capacity.

Solution

This project will provide children living in MPI's Welcoming House with the essential support they need to grow and thrive. It will ensure nutritious meals, personal hygiene and daily care items, comfortable sleeping arrangements, mosquito nets, and a safe and dignified living environment. The project will also cover school fees and educational materials, enabling children to attend school regularly and focus on their learning. Together, these interventions will promote wellbeing and stability.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of this project goes beyond meeting immediate needs. By providing a safe and supportive environment, proper care, and access to education, children and youth will have greater opportunities to reach their full potential. Improved wellbeing and learning outcomes will increase their chances of independence, employment, and active participation in their communities, helping to break cycles of poverty and vulnerability.
