Project Report | Oct 15, 2026
Quartely report of the Welcoming House Project.

By Onen Joel | Projects coordinator

Dear friends of The Welcoming House, thank you for standing with the children who call this place home. Between July and September, 65 children were cared for at the house, with daily meals, school fees, health care and through the guidance of caregivers. This quarter we managed to relocate the sewage system to the end of the fence so that they can get enough space to play. We also built a goat’s barn to have some animals to support the Welcoming House needs.

Our challenge and what we are doing about it

Our GlobalGiving campaign for The Welcoming House aims to raise $60,000. So far we have received $36. We want to be honest with you about this gap: the children’s needs are constant, andfew people yet know this project exists. To change that, we are starting a social media awareness campaign to help more people understand who the children are, what the house provides and why itmatters, this campaign is going to run on our Instagramprofile: @meetingpointinternational.

How MPI other projects support The Welcoming House

The house is part of a wider community that MPI serves, and the work we do elsewhere strengthens the care the children receive here.

  • Luigi Giussani schools and sport. School programs and the “Real Madrid Foundation football and basketball training” at Luigi Giussani High School give to the WH children a place to learn, play and belong.
  • Skills for women and youth. “On the Way to a Self-Determined Life” a project aimed at Empowering young people and women in the slums of Kampala which trains women and young people in skills such as tailoring. Steadier family incomes can help more families stay together and give the children we serve a stronger network around them.
  • Apprenticeships. Through the Distance Support Program, supported mainly by AVSI Foundation, youths of the WH learn marketable skills such as car repair, welding and hairdressing. This shows the children a clear path from care to a livelihood as they grow.
  • Health care. Our Kireka and Naguru Clinics, together with Kitintale Hospital, ensure that medical examinations and treatment are accessible. It is there that the children of the Welcoming House receive care.

Looking ahead

The major goal we are looking at right now is the campaign for the Welcoming House Project which is going to be ran on Instagram to enhance the visibility of Welcoming House Project which is to start on the 26/10/2026.

Next quarter we plan to install cameras at their facility to ensure more security and since they are going for their school year break, we are planning for how we can celebrate the festive season together as family. Thank you for your support through GlobalGiving. It gives the children stability, and the value of that is hard to measure. We will keep you updated on how they are growing.
