Support 50 children join school in Mombasa

February exposed a painful reality system failure in protecting vulnerable children. A young girl from a family still living on the streets failed to return to foster care after a short break, having been influenced to stay away. She, alongside other girls, was found to be housed by an adult man, an immediate safeguarding concern. We reported the case to three relevant government departments, seeking urgent intervention. Instead, responsibility was passed from one office to another for nearly two weeks. At one point, we were asked to conduct investigations ourselves despite this being outside our mandate. As days turned into weeks, no concrete action was taken. Then came the shocking call: the girl had been trafficked and was stranded at the Kenya–Tanzania border. At that point, we were contacted, not for coordination, but to step in and retrieve her. Through urgent fundraising and coordinated effort, we secured her safe return. She was handed over to us through the nearest police station, without documented follow-up, visible action on the perpetrators, or accountability on the initial reports made.
