By Kyondra Kennard | Support for At-Risk Teen Girls
Our second annual girl’s teen retreat is approaching and we have decided to focus on self-esteem and body-image. Also, at the request of one of our teens we have added depression support to the programing. Girls attending this program have been affected by HIV/AIDS, in addition to the daily struggles and pressures of being a young girl in our society. We hope to provide a sense of empowerment and self-love for these girls. Using interactive activities, peer support and quiet time; we hope to provide them with a basis to which they can continue throughout their home lives. We will be staying at a cabin a few hours from the city, where they girls can leave their day to day routines in hope of focusing on themselves.
By increasing the number of teens coming this year we will be able to make a bigger impact on our community. The teens receive great support in each other, and the higher the number the more diverse and helpful this weekend will be for the girls.
