We are nearly done with the first quarter of this year and it has been as busy and eventfully as never before! Alot of planning and new projects to advance our vision in the works.
We hope your year started off well and great plans abound for this year in your areas of influence and at a personal level. We are also hopeful that you remain our ardent supporter because it is your sacrifice and those of many others that enable us to deliver on our mission of helping persons with disabilities in Kenya.
As an organization,we are undergoing a critical planning stage that will enable us refine our modes of operations and ensure an effective delivery of on our mission using minimal resources. We are well aware that resources are scarce everywhere, the more reason we are indeed indebted to your generosity in supporting our work and encourage you to recruit your family and friends to join up together in furthering this course.
On our recent visit to a Kenyan maximum prison,we found out that there are prisoners who have a disability and would greatly do with mobility support to be able to move around within the confines of the prisons. We have put in place mechanisms to ensure that wheelchairs, elbow crutches and white canes are delivered to them to ensure that their mobility is maintained within the prison and thus avoid facing dehumanising conditions.
This cannot be possible without your continued support,it is in our belief that even those who offend the law still have their human rights and need to be taken care of;it is therefore not different for prisoners with disabilities. We wish it would be allowable to take photos within a prison so that we can present the situation as it is,unfortunately this is not possible due to the laws governing such institutions.
We will do more with prisoners with disabilities including teaching them skills that they can use once they are out of prison to earn their own income.
A new project on inclusive sports has been started targeting children with disabilities linking them with their peers in neighbouring schools to stimulate interactions and friendships. We are also implementing a project targeting women with disabilities and access to health especially issues around maternal child nutrition aimed at reducing child mortality and increase access to healthcare.
We will keep you informed once our new strategic plan is complete so that you can share with us in the bigger vision as consolidate our efforts towards making Kenya a better place for persons with disabilities.
Thank you for your continued support,it is a vote of confidence in our work.
