Many persons with disabilities in Nigeria struggle to access basic health services due to poverty and mobility barriers. This project will organize a community health program in Abuja to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. One hundred participants will receive free health checks, medical consultation, hygiene support items, and mobility aids such as walking sticks where needed. Families will also receive guidance on disability care and available health support services.
More than one billion people worldwide live with some form of disability according to the World Health Organization. Many persons with disabilities in Nigeria face barriers when seeking medical care. Limited income, mobility challenges, and lack of support services make it harder for them to receive routine health checks and treatment.
The project will organize a community health program in Abuja during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Health workers will provide free health checks and medical consultation for participants. Basic support items such as hygiene kits and mobility aids will be distributed. Families will also receive information on caring for persons with disabilities and how to seek medical help when needed.
Access to health care can improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities in low income communities. Early medical checks can help detect health problems before they become severe. Community programs held during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities can also increase public awareness and encourage respect and inclusion for persons living with disabilities.
