Progress to Date
The initiative to support 100 Bahamian junior golfers is advancing steadily with promising early results. Currently, 32 junior golfers are actively engaged in our tournament program, participating in 12 scheduled events throughout the year. In addition to tournament play, these players are actively involved in the broader junior golf development program, where they continue to hone their skills and gain vital competitive experience. While participation numbers are growing, there remains a significant need to secure full subsidies for golf instruction to ensure continued access and progress for all players.
Financial Barriers
The cost of sustained participation in junior golf programs—including instruction, tournaments, and equipment—remains well above what the average Bahamian family can afford. Scholarship assistance has already demonstrated a powerful impact, enabling many young athletes to thrive in the sport. Our structured growth plan proposes enrolling up to 20 students in the first year, with a goal of adding 10 or more new students annually, dependent upon funding availability. This approach ensures a stable and scalable pathway toward supporting 100 fully subsidized junior golfers over the coming years.
Strategic Approach
Junior golf in The Bahamas is at a pivotal moment for growth, fueled by emerging talent identified through the school golf championships. However, without addressing financial barriers, much of this potential may go unrealized. This project aims to facilitate a smooth and supportive transition from introductory school programs into year-round junior golf development. By removing economic obstacles, we create an environment where talent, commitment, and passion are the driving forces behind participation and success, not financial circumstances.
Projected Outcomes
The long-term impact of this program is substantial. We anticipate a 200% increase in junior golf participation within The Bahamas, alongside a significant rise in the number of young athletes earning college golf scholarships. By expanding access and opportunity, this initiative is not only developing golfers but also investing in the broader future of Bahamian youth. Through continued support, we aim to cultivate a strong, diverse, and sustainable pipeline of talent, leadership, and achievement for generations to come.
