By Jamila Bargach | Executive Director, Dar Si Hmad
With our valued German International Cooperation partner based in Rabat, we continue working in the under-served and under-equipped rural schools of the Anti-Atlas Mountains in Southwest Morocco. WIth GIC, we have built one of the first dry and ecologically innovative toilets in one of our serviced schools.
Rural schools often lack adequate sanitation for the children which makes it even harder for girls to attend school. Lack of the facilities does account for rural girls' dropping out of school and our initiative is to serve three different goals: a. service the pupils - b. create manure for the school yard and the garden - c. convince the school authorities that this is a successufl model to be duplicated in other schools.
The young girls proud and content to be at the center for this endeavor came to the school wearing the traditional-tribal identification of the Ait Baamrane. We at Dar Si Hmad are also proud that we are able to continue servicing our community with innovative and ecologically sound initiatives. Thank you Global Givers for supporting our work and, please, look forward to our future reports.
