Though summertime means vacation for students around the world, here at School-to-School, it means preparation for the school year ahead. The past few months have seen us busily planning for the next school year in Guinea.
This past year’s study showed that our holistic package of interventions resulted in increased math and reading scores for students in our experimental schools. With these promising results in mind, we will be continuing to grow our programs this coming year.
This summer, STS has also been closely following the news of the spread of the Ebola outbreak in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. As in any public health emergency, it is crucial to keep schools healthy so that children can learn in safety. For the 2014-2015 school year, we are committed to providing healthy learning environments for children in Guinea through our school health and sanitation programs. The educational programming includes training in healthy nutrition, sanitation and disease prevention practices and helps the community devise a school health and sanitation policy.
