Challenge

Buenaventura faces high youth unemployment, school dropout, and armed recruitment that trap young people in cycles of violence. Many grow up without safe spaces or role models. Sports fields are scarce, and opportunities almost nonexistent. With little access to education or mentorship, hundreds of youth are recruited by armed groups, losing their dreams, families, and the hope of peace in their own communities. This causes many young people to die at an early age.

Solution

This project is turning baseball into a bridge for peace and comprehensive education in Buenaventura. Through sports, tutoring, and mentorship, 500 youth learn discipline, teamwork, and life skills. Local coaches and educators provide ongoing guidance, psychosocial support, and career advice. Safe training spaces and community tournaments replace violence with constructive activity, enabling participants to pursue studies, work, and leadership roles and rebuild their communities.

Long-Term Impact

In the long term, this project will pull hundreds of young people out of armed groups by giving them a clear path through education, mentorship, and sports. The 500 participants will become leaders and mentors who, in turn, inspire and guide up to 10,000 more youth toward learning, athletics, and dignified work. This cycle of change reduces recruitment, strengthens communities, and builds sustainable peace in Buenaventura.
