Accountability towards informal settlers in Nepal

Description

We have been implementing an implementation research project with some component of accountability. Based on the preliminary findings and field observation we conducted various activities based on lobbying and advocacy modality. This report is based on activities conducted through October 2023 to April 2024.

Completed Activities

 Establishment of hand pump at Namuna Basti for regular availability of water.

• Meetings with concerned stakeholders to make basic services available in selected informal settlements.
• Reconstruction and maintenance of school building in Mathilo Ghostey settlement in collaboration with the ward office of respective settlement.

Remaining activities

Sharing research findings and meetings with respective local level representatives.

 Key Developments:

Positive Community Response: Our ongoing efforts to provide basic services in informal settlements and conduct regular sensitization workshops have led to a positive shift in community response.

Usage of Available Services: The sensitization workshops we held in informal settlements have increased the use of services, such as basic healthcare from government health posts. Many residents, previously unaware of these free government services, had been seeking care from private clinics.

Inclusive Approach: The project's inclusive approach, which focuses on vulnerable populations, has received support from various stakeholders. Concerned authorities have shown a willingness to collaborate closely with the project to tackle these specific challenges.
