Incubator for Peace and Women's Leadership for Social Transformation Primary Objective: To transform the role of Congolese women from passive victims of conflict into active, recognized leaders and mediators within both formal and informal peace processes. Constructing "Women's Peace Huts" in strategic villages to serve as dedicated hubs for resolving inter-communal and land disputes before they escalate ombining peacebuilding with services for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including
Women are often excluded or selected as "mere numbers" rather than experts, resulting in peace agreements (like the Washington Accords) that are silent on gender-related issues and sexual violence. The conflict has collapsed basic protection and health mechanisms, forcing women to lead peacebuilding efforts while simultaneously surviving a humanitarian catastrophe. Attacks on infrastructure mean women often give birth in unsafe conditions and survivors of sexual violence have limited access
Generic security measures often overlook risks specific to women, such as spikes in sexual violence that precede larger armed conflicts. Deploying Gender-Responsive Early Warning Systems (EWS) using mobile-based reporting tools. Women in the network can identify and report localized warning signs (e.g., changes in women's movement patterns or increased harassment at markets). This allows for 60 times more cost-effective early intervention compared to responding after a conflict has erupted.
The most significant long-term impact is the normalization of female leadership in public office. Over 10-15 years, this results in a permanent increase in women holding elected positions at the provincial and national levels. It ensures that the 30% gender quota becomes a floor, not a ceiling, leading to legislation that is inherently more gender-responsive and socially just. Through the Positive Masculinity and Youth Engagement pillars, the project influences the next generation.
