Our Justa Stove projects continue in Guatemala as our coordination in the region improves; we gain more knowledge daily of how to grow our impact alongside local partners. At this time, we have multiple ongoing community projects for which we aim to place 250 stoves per community. Our office team of Dilma and Waleska are buzzing with excitement to continue expanding the reach of the program, and the growing Guatemala Country team is busy evaluating community needs, meeting with local leaders and families, and establishing new project plans as our presence grows in the region.
Progress with Maestros Comaleros
Thanks to the support of donors like you, the Maestros Comaleros (Master Stovebuilders) program is producing real results - training stove builders who bring their new skills and expertise back to the communities they live and work in. Following our April 2022 training, the Maestros Comaleros program is currently being evaluated as we plan for the next phase of training additional stove builders!
An update from Alex Eaton, Guatemala Country Director:
“Just recently, I had the opportunity to visit Retalhuleu and Totonicapan to observe the strategic talks with the Rotary Club and another organization. Each area of Guatemala has unique challenges surrounding stove adoption but we are willing to try anything once. One thing that I love hearing from my team: the stove has parts that don’t change, but the aesthetics can; and Guatemalan ladies love a beautiful stove that fits their needs … here, bigger is better! While in Totonicapan, we built our Justa Chapina stove with an extra layer of bricks on both sides to mimic the types of stoves that large families are accustomed to there, with the hope to boost adoption. Efficiency isn’t affected because it’s the same stove but with aesthetic modifications. Guatemala is a growing economy and we have to remember that people have desires and needs; and we try to provide a product that hits both points.”
Thank you for continuing to support our goals at StoveTeam International, where each gift helps us to produce and distribute clean-burning cookstoves, reduce carbon emissions, and support healthier living conditions for families!
