Protect Vulnerable Elders in South Kivu

By BULAMBO | Cordinator

The project Rotational Goat Farming for Vulnerable Elderly DRC aims to help vulnerable older people in Ciragabwa, Kabare Territory, South Kivu, regain dignity and improve their living conditions. Without reliable pensions or regular income, many older people struggle to afford food and meet their basic needs. Some face neglect, social exclusion, and harmful accusations of witchcraft, while others experience domestic exploitation. Through a community-based goat farming initiative and awareness-raising activities, Elders Assistance ASBL seeks to strengthen household food security, promote economic independence, and restore respect for older people.

The project has a fundraising goal of $5,000, and no donations have been received so far. We are currently identifying trainers and potential beneficiaries and preparing for the launch of activities. The planned revolving goat initiative will provide selected older people with a male and a female goat. The first kid born will be passed on to another beneficiary, allowing the benefits to reach more people over time. Community awareness activities will also address harmful stereotypes and encourage families and local leaders to protect older people from abuse and discrimination. These activities are planned; implementation and results will be reported as the project progresses.

We are grateful to GlobalGiving for providing a platform through which we can share this initiative with a wider community of supporters. With the continued collaboration of GlobalGiving and the generosity of donors, we hope to raise the resources needed to begin implementation and bring lasting change to vulnerable older people in South Kivu. We invite individuals, organizations, and compassionate supporters around the world to contribute to this project. Every donation, whatever its size, can help build a stronger chain of solidarity, improve food security, and give an older person renewed hope for a safer and more dignified future. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to protect and empower older people.
