Stop Violence against Women in Pakistan

Introduction

Violence against women (VAW) remains a persistent and deeply rooted issue in Pakistan, affecting women and girls across all ages, backgrounds, and regions. In response, Joy Foundation Pakistan initiated a comprehensive campaign titled "Stop Violence Against Women in Pakistan" to raise awareness, empower women, and engage communities to end gender-based violence.

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of this initiative were:

  • To raise awareness about the different forms of violence against women.
  • To educate communities on women's rights and legal protections under Pakistani law.
  • To empower women and girls with knowledge, confidence, and support mechanisms.
  • To mobilize men, boys, and local leaders as allies in ending violence.
  • To strengthen referral pathways for survivors of violence.

Project Activities

3.1 Community Awareness Sessions

Areas Covered: District Toba Tek Singh

Total Sessions Conducted: 25

Participants Reached: Over 4,500 individuals (70% women, 30% men)

Topics Covered:

Forms of violence (domestic, psychological, sexual, economic, digital)

Early and forced marriages

Harassment at workplace and public spaces

Legal rights under the Women Protection Act

How to report violence (Police, Helplines, Legal Aid)

3.2 Capacity Building Workshops

Target Audience: Women leaders, teachers, healthcare workers, local CSOs

Workshops Conducted: 12

Participants Trained: 400 individuals

Outcomes:
Participants were trained on gender-based violence (GBV), case identification, survivor-centered approach, and referral systems.

3.3 School & College Campaigns

Institutions Engaged: 15 (10 schools, 5 colleges)

Youth Reached: 2,000 students

Activities:

Interactive sessions on gender equality and safe spaces

Poster and speech competitions

Formation of youth clubs to advocate against GBV

3.4 Media & Advocacy Campaign

Social Media Reach: Approx. 1 million impressions through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Print and Radio: 4 radio talk shows and 3 newspaper articles published

Advocacy Events:

District-level seminars with key stakeholders

International Women's Day rally in collaboration with civil society and local government

 

4. Support for Survivors

Referral Cases: 53 survivors were referred to legal aid, shelter homes, and psychosocial counseling.
