By James N Persad | Director of Communications - IIED
Following publication of the initial research previously reported on, and the associated news coverage, we are pleased to report that the UK has withdrawn from the Energy Charter Treaty, after efforts to agree modifications failed.
See links below to news announcements about this important action taken by the UK and other European governments.
Whilst we cannot attribute this withdrawal to the IIED research, the historic research and this report did inform a great body of work that described how damaging the treaties and ISDS processes for challenging the treaties are to swifter progress on tackling climate change.
The UK has joined France, Spain and the Netherlands in withdrawing from the Treaty.
Many thanks for everyone who supported or shared this important IIED piece of research.
