Teach For Nigeria Partnership - Capacity Development for Teachers
The Foundation partnered with Babcock Univeristy and Teach For Nigeria to deliver an Adult Awareness training program with a focus on child protection and safety. The beneficiaries were made up of freshly trained academic teachers who are caregivers and interface with children from day to day. Over 500 teachers benefitted from the training where we highlighted how to identify abuse and how to adequately respond when an incident of abuse occurs.
The Cece Yara Safe Kids Awareness Training Program (SKAP)
Within the window of this report, the Cece Yara Foundation team conducted the SKAP training program as part of our intervention objectives to continue to equip and improve the knowledge of pupils on body boundaries and safety. They were also trained on how to identify grooming techniques associated with potential perpetrators. The following organisations benefitted from this intervention within the reporting window:
Capacity Awareness Training for Adults in Local Grassroots Communities
Cece Yara Foundation trained key stakeholders in local grassroots communities. The leaders in the identified communities were carefully selected based on their roles, impacts, and influence. This was a sensitisation drive to continue to improve the knowledge of key community figures on the issues of child molestation, abuse, and assault. The session also touched on body boundaries and how to keep our children safe at all times. In addition, we shared information on how to identify cases of abuse to children and adults, and how to respond in the event that an abuse occurs. The following communities benefitted from the adult awareness intervention.
Cece Yara Conducts Market Sensitisation - Bariga Market, Lagos
The market is a public environment where cases of abuse have been reported over time. It is also a platform where people gather to interface and transact businesses. As part of our awareness creation, we sensitised the market women and men of the Bariga market, Shomolu, Lagos, on cases of abuse, child protection and safety, and ultimately how to report cases through the Cece Yara 24-hour toll-free child helpline.
Grassroots Local Community Sensitisation - Ilaja, Otumara Village, Lagos
Ilaje, Otumara village is a community with a high prevalence of abuse. It is particularly susceptible to cases of child abuse of different forms including child sexual abuse, and gender-based violence. Based on the mapping exercise conducted by the Cece Yara Foundation team, the Ilaje community is one that needed to be sanitised with information on abuse and how to report cases. Having worked with the relevant community leaders, the intervention was well received by the residents.
Adult Professional Awareness Training in The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM)
As part of our intervention strategy to improve the quality of information about child sexual abuse and gender-based violence in our communities, we went further to partner with religious bodies including TREM on child protection and safety. Religious bodies are a good platform to disseminate information on child sexual abuse due to the demography of people who worship at these centres. The Cece Yara team carried out sensitisation training to over 600 beneficiaries who are mainly caregivers of children and parents. This intervention was well received and we look forward to more sensitisation in these centres.
