Floods
Since our last report, Kerala suffered huge flooding and the whole state came to a standstill. Thousands of people had to evacuate their homes and stay in camps. Up to10ft of water and mud filled up many houses...lives were lost and possessions were ruined. After the initial emergency relief, people started making their way home to start the clearing and cleaning process. Fear of diseases and lack of provisions was the next issue.
Even for those of us who weren't flooded, we lacked electricity and ironically, good water but luckily things are getting back to normal.
Dil Se joined in the flood relief and helped with refurbishing a school (and home) for mentally and physically challenged children who had lost everything on the ground floor. We have been helping people with interest-free micro-credits, for several families we bought mattresses, clothes, bedsheets and we even bought a cow.
My Safety & Me
That's it...the first 3000 copies of our personal safety book for very young children are printed! We are so excited!!
The next step will be to take them round to all the local (English medium) kindergartens and convince the heads, teachers and parents of the importance of personal safety and then our staff will train the teachers to use the books.
They are also in the process of being translated into Malayalam so then we can also take them to the free government nursery schools!
Thank you for your ongoing support!!
Team DIL SE :)
