Nayiga
She is an 18 year old orphan who used to work as a domestic worker after dropping out of school due to lack of school fees. I used to wash utensils, clothings, take care of children and only paid 30,000/= per month which could not cater for my basic needs nor take me back to school. Life was not easy since I was out of school and had lost my parents. I lost my parents at a tender age before I completed my 0-level and. I started staying home and working a Domestic worker not until my auntie decided to employ me in her Restaurant in Nsambya.
However I lacked proper skills especially in making confectionary and when an opportunity came for me to join Kyebando Vocational Institution under PLAs sponsorship I had to take it up immediately. The love for catering prompted me to Join KVTC hence offered catering. My class teacher would sometimes assign task to me whereby I could train my fellow classmates. I could also earn some money like 30,000/= from backing cakes for my class mates during their birthday and graduation parties. Immediately after graduation the demand for cakes in the neighborhood was high hence started making cakes and selling them? However this came to a standstill since I lacked an oven and I only had one charcoal stove which sometimes could burn the cakes. I had to stop although I do it on a small scale when an order comes along. I got a job in a decent restaurant in Natete a Kampala suburb where I cook and also act as a waitress.
I earn 25,000/= per week with Lunch and super. We are now empowered and able to earn a living from our skills. I make sure I save atleast 10,000/= per week and have plans of buying an oven and starting my own confectionary.
