Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering, Inc.’s (FAME, Inc.) STEMulate® Change Outreach Initiative has adapted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally, participating students in grades 4, 5, and 6 meet in-person for six consecutive weeks of summer programming from Monday to Thursday; 8am – 3pm. Given the impacts of COVID-19, the 2020 summer session for all FAME, Inc. students (grades 4-12) is being conducted virtually.
FAME, Inc.’s digital learning began on Monday, June 22nd and will continue until Thursday, July 30th. Participating students were able to collect packets of supplies and materials that will be used during the course of the summer session. Lessons are administered via FAME, Inc.’s certified teaching faculty and cover a variety of STEM subject areas in addition to the study of mood and tone. On Monday, July 6th FAME, Inc. 4th graders explored how mood and tone are critical when writing literature and song lyrics. The class will take this knowledge and apply it to the mood B.B. King tried to convey within his song lyrics. To date, all STEMulate® Change students have participated via the Zoom Education Platform!
